ABOUT

PRJA is a design practise based in Pune, drawing upon the ability of cultures to co-exist, adopt and redesign shared influences. Prem refers it as the idea of Indianness. The word PRJA means people in Sanskrit pronounced as PR-JA (pruh-jah). Through a range of objects, lighting, and furniture we re-investigate materials, ancient craft techniques and the colourful offerings from Indianness.

Each region, each hand, each material - speaks a different perspective. At PRJA the commitment to experiment and collaborate across diverse craft languages with a contemporary voice brings value to the practise. We focus on learning and archiving the sensibilities of the craft cultures passed on from generations, preserving its soul for the future. Each piece, a fragment of India's many evolving craft cultures, a quiet celebration of the becoming. A modern heirloom.

PREM JADHAV

Prem is a designer and miniaturist with an early upbringing in Pune. After completing his design education in Mumbai, he trained in miniature painting from Jaipur. It is during this time, he found new interest in the ethnic material cultures and understanding a plural Indian identity. He brings experience in furniture design, material research and a passion for blending skilled craftsmanship with an artistic lens. Prem's vision for innovating and reinvesting in the craft cultures through  conscious design practise, captures the spirit of PRJA.
